Marseille is a city that lives and breathes football. The edgy, urban and vibrant city lies on the Mediterranean coast and boasts France’s main port making one of the busiest in the world with a buzzing nightlife and great food.

The city was voted the 2013 European city of culture and will host six games at this summer’s Euro 2016 championship, including England’s opening game versus Russia, as well as one Quarter-Final and Semi-Final.

Getting Around:

Marseille can be reached by a direct flight from most of the surrounding countries and a number of cities in England. Once in France, Lyon is the main rail hub connecting the majority of France’s main cities, including Marseille.

 

It is also worth noting when booking your travel from the UK that Eurostar have extended their normal 180-day booking horizon to seven months to cover the whole Euro 2016 tournament. Trains from London St Pancras to Lille, Paris, Lyon and Marseille will be on sale on their website.

The Stade Velodrome is only 4km away from the city centre and 30km away from the city airport.

 

Regular modes of travel making the city and surrounding area easily accessible by bus, metro and water taxi.

 

Where to watch the game:

With tens of thousands of fans expected to descend on the city for England’s opening game against Russia it will be the busiest time to visit the French city. Fan Zone areas will be set up in the city centre allowing fans to watch the matches on the big screens from surrounding bars and restaurants.
